Are you also one of the people who is unsure about his/her own beauty? Do
you always compare yourself with the social media advertisements which are
completely created by “photoshop”? You are definitely not alone! Each and every
person wants to be gorgeous and breathtaking. Therefore, almost everyone around
the world compares themselves with the models who are taking part in most of
the advertisements. This perception of beauty not only affects our general
mood, but also the commercial industry. For this reason, we should be aware of
this misleading manipulation.
·
PERCEPTION OF BEAUTY IN THE WORLD
Interestingly, there is always a perception of beauty in the world. Nowadays,
this perception has become “unreachable”. Girls, have to be skinny, tall,
full-lipped with a tiny nose. However, these are not the only criteria! At the
same time, they have to own a “huge booty” with “enormous breasts”.
Unfortunately, boys also deal with a similar problem. Why do the social media
advertisements supress the men to be tall, lean, muscular with a specific
hairstyle? Are these all necessary in order to survive? I do not think so. These
“unrealistic ideas” should definitely have another side…
May I ask something to the social media influencers or whoever is
responsible for this “silly” perception of beauty? How can a normal person have
all these features at the same time naturally? We all know that it will not
happen “naturally”. One have to deal with thousands of plastic surgery, learn
how to do make-up according to the current trend, own a phone which has a
professional camera with sparkling filters in it.
·
HOW DID THE PERCEPTION OF BEAUTY CHANGE OVER CENTURIES?
During the Renaissance, the perception of beauty was almost the opposite
of the today’s perception of beauty. People used to believe that being plump
was the symbol of beauty and richness. I would like to question something at
this point: If people were considered as beautiful when they were fat, then why
do we have to be skinny nowadays? What has changed? Actually, nothing has
changed. People were always restricted with some features, and they are always
going to be limited in the future as well. In order to overcome those silly
ideas, people have to be educated. If the perception of beauty can change over
time, then people’s mindset can also be changed. Everyone needs to learn that
there is not only one definition of beauty.
·
THE REAL DEFINITION OF BEAUTY
In my opinion, there is not any “definition of beauty”. No one can
define beauty, not even the social media advertisements can. Beauty can be
defined as several things such as; being natural, inner beauty, or the feeling
and the self esteem while you are thinking of your self-image. The definition
of beauty cannot be limited to a particular thing. Everyone has their own
unique beauty in themselves. The main issue is to see, believe, feel and live
that “beauty”.
·
HOW DOES IT AFFECT OUR SELF ESTEEM?
Unfortunately, the social media advertisements do not affect our both
physical and mental health in a positive way. When people see “fake pictures”
of gorgeous famous people on social media, they start to compare themselves and
their lives. As those “lives” are totally created by some professional groups, those
lives and bodies are unachievable. Of course, social media may lead to an
eruption in our self esteem. However, if we learn to think realistically, we
can all have a high self esteem. Never forget that you are beautiful. That
beaty deserves a high self esteem.
·
ILLNESSES DUE TO THE SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECT
Due to the social media advertisements, many people develop eating
disorders. There are many different types such as binge-eating, obesity, anorexia
nervosa, bulimia nervosa or just fear of food. These illnesses may also lead to
depression, anxiety attacks and sometimes to fear of non-acceptability. In
order to overcome these illnesses, you should remind yourself that you have a
unique beauty that no one has. Do not try to change yourself, your unique
beauty, but your mindset.
·
HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE COMMERCIAL INDUSTRY?
Social media has only one aim. No one actually cares about how people
looks. Believe me, it does not have any importance. The actual aim is to earn
money by affecting people’s mental and physical health. First of all, people
have to diet and go to the gym in order to be slim and fit. The more they see
fast food advertisements, the more they eat those junk food, which leads to
obesity. They again start dieting and trying to put some make-up. If they
cannot reach the beauty standards of the world, they got operations. Finally,
they buy lots of clothes in order to be the coolest person in that particular
area. As you can see, the “beauty industry” is directly linked to the
“commercial industry”. By affecting people with the perception of beauty, they
earn billions of dollars every day.
·
DOES THIS CIRCUMSTANCE LEAD PEOPLE TO LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME?
No one can see this problem, but looking exactly the same with other
people is not beautiful. I strongly believe that uniqueness is much more
important than looking like the models on the social media advertisements. You
should understand that being unique is beautiful and interesting. You may amaze
the people around you by your own features. No one needs to look just like the models
on social media.
·
PEOPLE -ESPECIALLY KIDS AND TEENAGERS- SHOULD BE INFORMED ABOUT THIS
MANIPULATION
Low self esteem is an important concern among the kids and teenagers. Naturally,
teenagers got affected about being beautiful really deeply. As those years are
a person’s most beautiful years, people focus on the issue of perception of
beauty. Unfortunately, social media affect their mood seriously. In order to
teach them to love themselves, they have to be informed about the manipulation.
The concept “photoshop” misleads them, so they may have to fight against with
mental health problems.
In conclusion, social media advertisements affect the perception of
beauty around the world. That perception of beauty affects the people’s mental
and physical health. Unfortunately, the effects of the beauty perception lead to
expenditure of thousands of dollars unnecessarily. Therefore, we can see that
there is a manipulation of the commercial industry about the perception of
beauty. Please, do not believe in those silly things, believe in yourself and
be yourself. You are already very beautiful.
