GLOBAL WARMING CAN BE PREVENTED

The nature has a power to stop global warming, but humanity should also help the nature.

Suzan R. Hofstede, May 29 2022, Italy

Everyone believes that people are too late for preventing the melt of the Earth. However, the nature is able to stop this circumstance. If people cooperate with the nature, then all of the threats waiting for the humanity will end forever.

Two different feedback loops are affecting the global warming: Negative feedback loop and positive feedback loop. The negative feedback loop seems like it is the dangerous one. Contrary to its name, it is the one which slows down the negative impacts of the humanity’s behaviour.

The negative feedback loop of the global warming consists of six steps. First, the global temperature rises. Secondly, ice caps start to melt. As more water is available for evaporation due to the melting, more clouds start to appear. These clouds reflect the solar radiation. Finally, as the sun light cannot reach the Earth exactly, global temperature decreases.

If people do not use too much fossil fuels and start using renewable energy sources, then global warming will automatically stop. Although the planet has a chance to get rid of this torture, if people do not act accordingly, it will be impossible to stop the effects of it.

The positive feedback loop is the loop which occurs more than the other one. When the global temperature rises, ice caps start to melt and dark soil exposes. Due to the dark colour of the soil, the soil absorbs excessive amounts of solar radiation. That solar radiation leads to drop in albedo. Albedo is the reflecting ability of a surface. As the albedo effect disappears, the global temperature rises again.

The minister of the group called “Our Future” said: “We do not have another planet to live. Global warming is actually happening, and we have to fight against it!”

There are a few easy solutions to prevent the dark end. Using energy-efficient devices and light bulbs is the solution that everyone can help. In order to reduce the greenhouse effect, people have to plant more trees. Schools should teach the pupil how to recycle plastic and paper more. Groups dealing with global warming should start more campaigns in order to create an awareness among the people.

Both people and companies should minimize their usage of fossil fuels. If people use renewable energy, the usage of fossil fuels will automatically decrease. Instead of using cars, people can walk or cycle to their work. This will not only reduce the usage of fossil fuels, but also increase the number of healthy people. The governments should also support the usage of renewable energy sources.

In conclusion, the nature has the ability to stop the global warming. However, the humanity does not try to help the nature. Instead of helping the nature, people give much more harm to the nature. Therefore, the system goes into a positive feedback loop and things got worse.

ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS AND SOCIETIES: INTERNAL ASSESSMENT (IB)

HOW DOES THE COUNTRIES’ -TURKEY, THE NETHERLANDS AND THE USA- SOLAR POWER USAGE CORRELATE WITH THEIR ECONOMIC STATUS? PERSONAL ENGAGEMENT Solar energy can be used for solar water heaters and house heating. The heat from solar energy enables the production of food, chemicals, textiles, and it can also be used in warm greenhouses, swimming pools, and livestock buildings. Furthermore, providing a power source for electronic devices and even cooking can be achieved by using solar energy [1] . Turkey is a country which might use the solar power energy efficiently. However, in our country, although the solar energy is used sporadically for hot water in domestic use and in some hotels in southern Turkey, we can state that it is not widely applied as a sustainable and a clean energy source. Unlike Turkey, the Netherlands uses the technological opportunities really well, even though the country does not have an extreme access of sun light [2] . On the contrary, United States ...

ELECTRIC CONSUMPTION AND ENERGY SAVING

[7] INTRODUCTION: THE EFFECTS OF ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION ON THE ENVIRONMENT Electricity has a great importance in our World nowadays. Especially, due to the pandemic we all have started using the electrical devices and gadgets much more than before. This increase in electricity consumption has absolutely some effects on the environment. These impacts depend on the usage, how and where we have been generating or delivering. The usage of electricity may seem quite safe. However, the production and transmission of electricity have a huge impact on the environment. Electricity is generated by moving a conductive wire such as copper in a magnetic field. An electric generator is a machine that contains coiled conductive wires rotating inside a magnet and generates electric current by rotating these wires. In order to obtain a large amount of electrical energy which is necessary in our homes, workplaces, industry; large power plants are needed. [8]   Most power plants are gen...

ENGLISH INDIVIDUAL ORAL QUESTIONS (IB)

What ideas and images do we associate with a healthy lifestyle? In my opinion the main point is balancing our lives. Most of the people think that a healthy lifestyle includes only eating vegetables and fruits, doing tons of cardio and not even tasting the meals that include carbohydrates. This idea is wrong. Because a lifestyle should be able to last forever. We should also include some awards like chocolate or pasta in our diet. What constitutes an identity? The society plays the biggest role while creating our identities. Because our values and culture affect our way of thinking and our lifestyle as well. Our family and our friends may change our point of view. For instance, when we visit our family members who live abroad may develop our personality. While talking with them we might use another language. And the language we use improves our vision. When we start talking another language, we might think in a different way than usual. The vocabulary and the gramm...
