Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Do you really believe that social media is
the worst invention, especially for children and students? Do you really
believe that social media isolates people from each other? Do you really
believe that social media cannot be useful?
I don’t think so. Social media is not our
enemy! By the time we start to use these platforms responsibly, we will be all
appreciated by our families and teachers. You have not heard me wrong! They
“will” absolutely thank us for our social media usage. I know that this will
happen someday. The only point is catching some tips. Never forget that “we”,
as a team, will overcome this “little and silly” challenge.
Some group of people -who are technically
our real enemies- claim that social media causes sleep deprivation, social
isolation and decrease in students’ academic performance. Those people claim
that students are spending too much time on social media. Our actual enemies
also claim that students do not use the social media platforms responsibly.
However, they all forget something: No one believes strongly in claims which
are not justified. Right? I would like to ask “those people” a question: Where
is your evidence? Do “you” even have “real” proof?
Do not feel desperate, the people who are
going to make our future brighter. We should all believe in ourselves! We are
going to teach those people that social media is not only made up of shiny,
colourful and unintellectual images. Social media is not only about vertiginous
videos which are like dogs and cats chasing each other. The main idea of social
media platforms is to communicate with the whole world in seconds. We can learn
essential, intellectual and inspiring things as well.
Unlike “those people”, I would like to give
a “real”, “concrete” and “convincing” evidence. I have been using “three”
different Instagram accounts, where I post “beneficial” things every day. One
account is about the books I read and my comments about those books. As you can
see, social media can also include “intellectual” ideas as well! The other one
is about sports and healthy nutrition. Which means that, social media can help
people about living a healthy and balanced lifestyle! And the last account is
about fashion. One may think that “fashion” has no relationship with intellectuality.
However, it does! Firstly, people need to know how to dress as the “first
impression” is really important in each and every area of our lives. Secondly,
people should remember that they need fun and relaxing things in their daily
routines. Unless they take breaks, they will not be able to survive mentally in
this world. Furthermore, thanks to these social media accounts I have got in
touch with people from all over the world who share the same interests, which
is a great gain.
Actually, I absolutely did not get affected
by any of the “claimed problems”. I can still concentrate on my tasks, I can
still deal with “intellectual and healthy” things during my life. The main idea is that social media can be
useful when it is used responsibly. So why, “those people” are taking such a
beneficial tool from us?
Why do they believe that social media
cannot teach people anything? If there was not such thing as social media
-where we can contact the whole world easily-, how could we survive the
Covid-19 pandemic? How can a person learn the breaking news while trapped
inside some silent walls -where there is no communication with other people-?
People are created to communicate with each other. Therefore, social media
helps “us” -the whole world- mentally.
Never forget that social media is not “our”
enemy! The real enemies are obvious! Social media can only be our friend, our
mentor, our teacher, our perspective and our lifestyle! Using these
technological developments will not harm us. With those developments, “we”
develop ourselves day by day and improving our bright futures step by step.
Let’s create our shiny, powerful and bright futures with the help of the social
media!
Thank you for listening to me.
